Winter Weather Exposes Roof Damage

Why do roof problems always show up during wintertime?

Most of the time your roof isn’t dealing with freezing and thawing like you see during the winter. Where in warmer times, water is generally released quickly, expansion and contraction is more extreme in Winter. Just this week, we were completely frozen, now it’s raining.

Two things tend to happen with freezing water. 1) Frozen water has more volume, so in the creaks and crevices of your roof system, frozen water pushes more around. 2) Thaws often happen slowly, so water has time to meander and find its way into ceilings and attics. As the temperature fluctuates, the roof damage shows its weak points.
